Jacob Manu gets the game ball.

The freshman linebacker forced two turnovers in the final five minutes of Friday’s Territorial Cup to help lead Arizona to a 38-35 win over Arizona State in the Territorial Cup. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Wildcats in the annual in-state rivalry and gave the UA a 5-7 record to close out the season.

Arizona State was driving — a 10-play, 44-yard drive that began with just under nine minutes on the game clock. The Wildcats had a 38-35 lead in a game that went back and forth all day. ASU got to the Arizona 20, and then Manu came screaming off the edge to blow up Bourguet on the blind side and force a fumble.

Tia Savea recovered the fumble and Arizona took over at the ASU 36-yard-line.

Arizona got immediately punched off the field as Michael Wiley was stuffed on a fourth-and-1 run from the ASU 27, but Manu was there to clean things up three plays later. He was able to get pressure on ASU quarterback Trenton Bourguet once more, getting a hand on Bourguet’s arm as he tried to release the ball.

It popped up and Isaiah Taylor came down with the interception.

Arizona was able to kneel on the ball twice to kill the remainder of the clock and the Wildcats walked off with the win.

The Wildcat defense forced five turnovers on the day. Manu finished with seven tackles.
