Facing his former team, Jayden de Laura made no bones about it: Arizona’s game against Washington State on Saturday was personal for him. So you knew emotions were going to be running high.

Arizona took a 21-6 deficit into the halftime break as emotions boiled over a bit. The Pac-12 Network broadcast caught de Laura getting into a shoving match with wideout Dorian Singer on the sideline.

Midway through the second quarter, de Laura connected with Tetairoa McMillan down the sideline for a 47-yard completion to set Arizona up just outside Washington State’s 20. De Laura fired high looking for McMillan again on the next play and a second-down run from Speedy Luke gained nothing to set up a third-and-10. De Laura went to Singer over the middle, who appeared to chop his route right at the goal line.

The miscommunication between the two led to an incompletion and forced an Arizona field goal.

As they came off the field, de Laura reached out to high-five Singer, who either didn’t see or ignored him. That led to a shove from de Laura and then the two got helmet to helmet as de Laura shoved Singer back. Coach Jedd Fisch and others worked to separate them and calm tempers.

Immediately after the broadcast showed the clip of the shove, it cut live to de Laura and Singer sitting on the bench together, chatting, and dapping each other up.

Arizona was splendid a week ago in upsetting UCLA in the Rose Bowl, and de Laura’s individual brilliance was on full display. Against Washington State, it has been a much tougher go of things.
