Jedd Fisch updates status of Arizona lineman Raymond Pulido ahead of Pac-12 opener
Jedd Fisch says Arizona guard Raymond Pulido is “good to go” and expected to play on Saturday when the Wildcats open Pac-12 play against Stanford.
The 6-foot-6 true freshman from Apple Valley, California, was expected to start at right guard for the Wildcats when the season began, but a biking accident has kept him sidelined for the 2-1 start.
“We’ll keep him off the bicycle tonight,” Fisch joked on Thursday.
The initial expectation was that Pulido would start at guard and Jonah Savaiinaea would kick out to tackle. With Pulido unavailable, Sam Langi started the Week 1 contest at right guard. In each of the last two games, Savaiinaea has played right guard while Joseph Borjon has started at right tackle.
Pulido played guard and tackle for his high school. He was a two-sport athlete and a 4-star recruit.
Arizona sang his praises throughout fall camp and Fisch said prior to the season they knew right away he would be a starter for them.
Back healthy, he’ll have the chance to finally make good on that potential.
Arizona’s offense has had very little issue moving the ball so far this year. The Wildcats rank 11th nationally in offensive efficiency (7.7 yards per play) and it’ll be interesting to see how Pulido’s insertion back into the lineup helps things.
The Wildcats face Stanford on Saturday at 4 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network.
