Jedd Fisch updated the status of starting quarterback Jayden de Laura on Thursday, citing that there is “no change” to his current injury status.

Fisch said de Laura did participate in individual drills on Wednesday, and he got in some 7-on-7 work, but Fifita has taken most of the team reps.

This comes after Fisch said on Monday that if de Laura is healthy, he will be the starter, putting any QB competition rumors to bed.

De Laura went down with an ankle injury against Stanford in Week 4 and was unable to play against Washington last week. Redshirt freshman Noah Fifita stepped in and threw for 232 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception on 27-for-39 passing in the 31-24 loss.

If de Laura is unable to play against No. 9 USC on Saturday, then Fifita will make his second-ever start after appearing in three games in 2022.

The Arizona offense, which ranks 36th in the nation with 273.6 passing yards per game, did not miss a beat with Fifita under center last weekend and will need a similar performance from its quarterback if Fisch’s bunch is to keep pace with the high-powered USC offense.

The Wildcats will take on the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
