Jayden de Laura is your Offensive Player of the Week.

The Pac-12 announced its weekly performance awards on Tuesday, and the first-year Arizona quarterback was selected as the top offensive performer from Week 1 for his help in leading the Wildcats to a 38-20 road win over San Diego State.

The third-year sophomore quarterback finished Saturday’s game with 299 yards and four touchdowns on 22-of-35 passing. His four touchdown passes were the most by an Arizona quarterback in their Wildcat debut since Anu Solomon threw four against UNLV in 2014.

Defensive lineman Jalen Harris was also named the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week.

For de Laura, this is his first POTW award. He had several Freshman of the Week awards last season — and ultimately won the league’s Freshman of the Year honor. He’s also the first Wildcat to be named Offensive Player of the Week since JJ Taylor earned the distinction in Week 4 of the 2018 season.

Harris recorded eight tackles and one sack to help the UA defense hold the Aztecs to just 62 yards passing and 189 total yards rushing.

The sack came at a crucial moment. He got to San Diego State quarterback Braxton Burmeister on third-and-7 at the Arizona 21-yard-line to force San Diego State to settle for three points early in the second quarter. The sack ended a nearly five-minute march from the Aztecs. De Laura then drove the offense down the field and capped things off with a 6-yard touchdown pass to wideout Tetairoa McMillan to put Arizona up 17-3. The Wildcats pulled away from there, at one point running up a 31-10 lead.

Arizona opens its home schedule on Saturday against Mississippi State, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. PT on FS1.
