Arizona's Jaxen Turner makes national team of the week for Mississippi State performance
Arizona lost the game — and that’s ultimately what Jaxen Turner will care about — but the Wildcat safety got a bit of recognition for his individual performance.
Turner is on the Week 2 Defense of the Week from Pro Football Focus, joined by Georgia State safety Antavious Lane at the back of the defense. Through two games, Turner has been a force in the UA secondary.

Against Mississippi State, turner had eight tackles, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble. PFF’s numbers have him being targeted three times, allowing just a single reception. He was the highest-graded defender for Arizona in Week 2, with an 89.7 defensive grade. That also made him the third-highest-graded Pac-12 defender to see the field in Week 2 and the highest-graded defensive back.
Turner’s forced fumble came at a remarkable time in last Saturday’s game. One play after a Jayden de Laura interception, Turner stripped MSU receiver Jamire Calvin and returned the fumble to the 4-yard-line, setting up a 2-yard score from Jacob Cowing to bring Arizona within 25-17 midway through the third quarter.
Through two games, Turner has the second-most tackles for the Wildcat defense (15).
Turner and the Wildcats (1-1) return to the field on Saturday when it hosts North Dakota State. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. PT on FS1.
