For the third time this season, an Arizona freshman has earned the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Week award.

The league announced on Monday that Arizona linebacker Jacob Manu is the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in Arizona’s 34-28 upset win over UCLA on Saturday. Manu recorded a career-high 10 tackles against then-No. 9 UCLA, helping the Wildcat defense limit one of the nation’s best offenses to just 28 points.

Manu’s selection gives Arizona its sixth weekly award this season.

The Wildcats started seven true freshmen against UCLA with each first-year Wildcat contributing to the first win against a ranked opponent since 2018 (No. 19 Oregon). The victory also marked the first win over an AP Top 10 team for the UA since 2015 and the first road AP Top 10 win since 2014.

The true freshman from Santa Ana, California has 43 tackles on the season to go with 2.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

“It was big for me because I have a lot of family here,” Manu said after the game. “Especially for me and the team, this is the biggest win that we’ve had so far. It’s a Top 10 team. It was a big win for the whole team.”

The Wildcats (4-6, 2-5 Pac-12) are back in action against Washington State (6-4, 3-4 Pac-12) at Arizona Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network. Arizona is looking to keep its bowl hopes alive. A win over the Cougars would mean a bowl bid is on the line in the Territorial Cup on Nov. 25.
