The recognition for Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd continues to roll in.

USA Basketball announced earlier this week the coaching staff for the 2022 Men’s U18 National Team, and Lloyd was named as part of the six-person training camp staff.

Lloyd is making his USA Basketball debut and will serve as a ‘court coach’ during training camp in Houston this summer, aiding in on-court skills and drills. However, he will only assist at training camp and will not travel with the team for the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Men’s Championship.

Colorado head coach Tad Boyle will serve as the head coach for the USA team and will be assisted by Mike Boynton Jr. (Oklahoma State) and Leon Rice (Boise State). The other ‘court coaches’ are Matt Langel (Colgate) and Rob Lainer (SMU).

The US won gold at the 2018 FIBA U18 Americas Championship and has won gold at nine of the 11 FIBA U18 Americas championships since the event’s inception in 1990. The 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled due to COVID.

Following his first year on the bench at Arizona and his first season as a D1 head coach, Lloyd was named National Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, NABC and USBWA, becoming the first Arizona coach to receive the honor from any of the three outlets.

He was also named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year after guiding the Wildcats to an 18-2 mark in conference play as well as regular-season and conference tournament crowns. The 33-4 overall record tied for the third-most wins in school history and ranked as the second-best debut campaign by a Division I head coach in NCAA history.
