Arizona basketball reportedly adds former NBA head coach to program
Arizona basketball is reportedly adding some NBA experience to its staff.
Per Israel’s Ynetnews, former NBA head coach David Blatt is joining the Arizona Wildcats basketball team as a “professional consultant.” Blatt is stepping down from his role as head of the managing committee for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
According to Ynetnews, the career change is due to the difficulties presented by overseas travel on Blatt, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis.
Blatt will be a valuable addition to the Wildcats. The Israeli basketball legend had a stint as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2016-2018 and has served in head coaching roles in various leagues and countries.
The veteran coach and executive has won the Israeli Super League 5 times, the Israeli Cup 6 times, and received 4 Israeli Super League Coach of the Year awards, making him one of the most accomplished figures in Israeli sports.
The Arizona basketball team visited Israel this summer on their annual tour. Wildcat head coach Tommy Lloyd has even called Blatt “a mentor of mine.”
