Arizona voted on five team captains for the new season.

Head coach Jedd Fisch announced the five on Monday at his first game-week press conference. Four of the five have spent at least four seasons with the program while the fifth — quarterback Jayden de Laura — arrived this offseason after two years at Washington State. The Wildcats’ starting quarterback is joined by offensive lineman Jordan Morgan, defensive lineman Jalen Harris, and defensive backs Christian Young and Christian Roland-Wallace.

Michael Lev of The Arizona Daily Star shared the announcement on Twitter.

The 6-foot de Laura was named the 2021 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year last season after leading the Washington State Cougars to a 7-6 record and a berth in the Sun Bowl. After throwing for 2,798 yards and 23 touchdowns last season, de Laura will look to bring a little more explosiveness to the Wildcats in 2022.

Morgan is entering his third year as a full-time starter. The 6-foot-6 fourth-year junior started each of the team’s first two games in 2020 before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. He missed the season-opener last season, but returned to start each of the team’s final 11 games.

The 6-foot-6 Harris is a super-senior this season for Arizona. A Gilbert native, Harris has played in 40 of the last 41 games dating back to the start of the 2018 season. He took a redshirt year in 2018, but has been a regular part of the defensive line rotation ever since. He finished the 2021 season fifth on the team with 47 tackles while also posting six tackles for loss and four sacks.

When healthy, Young has played ever since his true freshman season in 2018. He was a starter at the Viper position in every game last year for the Wildcats. He finished second on the team with a career-high 68 tackles to go with four pass breakups and two tackles for loss. Young was one of Arizona’s player reps at Pac-12 Media Day in July.

Roland-Wallace has also been a regular starter since arriving on campus in 2019. He started eight times as a true freshman and has started every game over the last two years. So far in fall camp, his teammates have called the Palmdale, California native one of the best corners in the conference.

The Wildcats open the new season on the road. They play San Diego State on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. PT on CBS.
