Adama Bal scored 15 points and grabbed six boards in Arizona’s 91-61 exhibition win over Western Oregon Tuesday night.

The Cats capitalized well off of their defense, forcing 24 turnovers that led to 31 points. They also dominated on the glass, finishing with a 52-32 advantage. Arizona connected on its first eight shots of the game to take the early lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 31 late in the second half. The Wildcats shot 48.5% from the floor while holding Western Oregon to 38.3%.

Bal was one of six Wildcats to score in double figures. Azuolas Tubelis led the way with 19 points, Oumar Ballo had 14 points and 11 boards, Pelle Larsson had 12 to go with eight boards and four assists, while Courtney Ramey and Cedric Henderson Jr. each had 10 points.

The Wildcats are looking to replace last year’s leading scorer and Player of the Year winner — Bennedict Mathurin. Coach Tommy Lloyd is hoping another go-to kind of scorer emerges.

Could it be the 6-foot-7 Bal in his second year with the program?

“Adama has a good feel for the game,” Lloyd said. “I think he’s a young player who maybe kinda his feel for the game has carried him a little bit. Now he’s being a little bit more of an alpha dog and playing a little bit more of a physical style because he’s growing up. Now he’s just got to find a good mix between being aggressive on offense and also making plays for others.

“Adama is 17 years old. To see him be that aggressive, and hopefully he’ll get a little bit of confidence, is a positive for us.”

Bal got 15 points on two made baskets. He got to the free throw line 11 times, constantly looking to attack the basket.

Arizona will be back in McKale on Monday, Nov. 7, for the official start of the season against Nicholls. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network.
