Trenton Bourguet exits Utah game with injury as Arizona State QB depth dwindles
Trenton Bourguet made his fifth consecutive start for Arizona State on Saturday against Utah, but he was knocked out of the game after just three plays.
On a third-and-9 pass, Bourguet was brought down by Utah’s Jonah Elliss as he threw. Bourguet’s feet were caught under the weight of Elliss and he fell awkwardly. Bourguet had to be helped off the field and struggled to put weight on his left leg.
He was later taken from the field on the team’s medical cart.
Arizona State was already without Jaden Rashada and Drew Pyne. Neither dressed, leaving fourth-string passer Jacob Conover as the only other scholarship option at quarterback.
ASU entered the day with just seven scholarship offensive linemen available and a defensive lineman dressed as an emergency offensive lineman. The Sun Devils are also without tailback DeCarlos Brooks.
One week after snapping the losing streak with a 38-27 win over Washington State, the Sun Devils are really up against it.
Bourguet entered the day with 1,196 yards through the air, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He has completed 64% of his passes. Conover has only attempted 16 passes entering Saturday, completing six of them for 89 yards and two interceptions. All of his production came during the 29-0 loss to Fresno State on Sept. 16.
