Sparky is making a return this week for Arizona State.

The program revealed its uniform choice for Saturday’s big non-conference road game against No. 11 Oklahoma State, and the beloved Sparky adorns the helmet. The look is simple: yellow helmet, white tops with maroon accents, yellow pants with the classic Sparky logo on the hop, and yellow Ultraboost cleats.

The Sparky logo on the side of the helmet is a modified version of the longtime ASU logo, potentially opening the door for further alternates playing around with the look. One can hope.

The Sparky logo was used from 1980 to 2010. Those outside the program weren’t as fond of the iconography as those within and around ASU, though. In 2011, Arizona State switched its primary logo to the trident.

But Sparky has been used on alternates and throwbacks in the past, much to the appreciation of the fanbase.

He’s coming back for a massive early-season test of this new-look Sun Devil squad.

Arizona State won its opener last Thursday against Northern Arizona, 40-3. The Cowboys in Stillwater, Oklahoma present challenges. The OSU offense put up 58 points in its opener against Central Michigan. The defense was leaky in its first game under new coordinator Derek Mason, but was one of the best in the country last season and returns the reigning Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in defensive end Collin Oliver.

The two sides kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2 this Saturday.
