Ray Anderson issues apology to West Virginia after jab at Morgantown last week
Ray Anderson has come out with an apology to West Virginia after the Arizona State athletics director last week discussed the Sun Devils’ move to the Big 12.
“I promise I’m not going to Morgantown,” Anderson said. “I’m going to assign that to (deputy AD) Jean Boyd. He can go to Morgantown. But send me to Texas and the rivalry with Arizona and starting a new one with BYU, Utah and Colorado.”
Anderson said those comments were said in jest and taken out of context. Anderson said he called West Virginia Athletics Director Wren Baker to apologize for his comments on Morgantown and that he looks forward to visiting.
“They were clumsy comments from me that I sincerely regret,” Anderson said. “Because I offended some people when no offense was intended,” Anderson said on “Bickley and Marotta Mornings.” “For that I apologize, I sincerely do.”
Anderson added that it gets really cold in West Virginia in the winter, and that was his original reference, and he doesn’t like the cold.
“I’ve been there, it’s a beautiful, beautiful college town,” Anderson said. “They’ve got a nice stadium there and their folks are as gracious with their hospitality as any you will find.”
