Incoming Notre Dame QB transfer Drew Pyne suffered a hamstring tear in practice this past week, muddying the waters for ASU’s QB situation heading into Week 1.

On Monday, head coach Kenny Dillingham spoke with reporters briefly about the current state of the position with under half a month until the start of the season.

As for Pyne’s injury itself, Dillingham didn’t reveal much. He simply said the team has no update on how long he will miss moving forward.

However, Dillingham did mention that Jaden Rashada has made “NFL throws” in practice and continues to improve daily heading into the start of the season.

Rashada is a 4-star incoming freshman who had quite the controversial path to Tempe. He originally committed and signed to play for Miami but later flipped to Florida. Shortly after signing with the Gators he requested a release from his NLI after an NIL deal worth just over $13 million reportedly fell through.

He eventually ended up at Arizona State, where his father played. From a purely athletic standpoint, Rashada trumps Pyne. However, the freshman signal caller is obviously the riskier starter between the 2 given Pyne’s experience against strong D1 competition.

Arizona State kicks off its season on August 31 against Southern Utah.
