Kenny Dillingham made it a priority to reignite the Camp Tontozona tradition, and his first trip seems to have lived up to the billing.

A place that became synonymous with Arizona State football, “Camp T” visits became a tradition in 1959 under Frank Kush and continued through 2019 until the COVID-19 pandemic forced a hiatus. Former head coach Herm Edwards brought the team to Camp T for single-day trips, but Dillingham wanted a return to roots.

ASU hiked, camped, explored, and did just about every kind of team-building exercise a coach can think of. The group wrapped up a three-day trip on Saturday with an open scrimmage in front of fans.

“I think our team is growing together,” Dillingham said, per SunDevilSource. “It’s not overnight. We’re not gonna snap our fingers and be the culture we want. This is going to take time. It’s going to take years and years of work to build it.

“Culture takes time. Building something right takes time. If you’re not going to take shortcuts, it’s gonna take time.”

Trips like this latest to Camp T are going to be important.

Dillingham called the experience unbelievable.
