Arizona State (3-6, 2-4 Pac-12) heads to Pullman on Saturday to battle Washington State (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12).

The Cougars snapped a three-game winning streak last weekend with a beatdown of Stanford in Palo Alto. Washington State had more points on the scoreboard before halftime arrived than it had produced in any other game to that point in the season. Now it gets an Arizona State team that just gave up 50 to UCLA a week ago.

The Sun Devils have found their offensive footing since a quarterback change, as Trenton Bourguet has sparked some newfound confidence in the offense’s ability to put points on the board. Bourguet has been airing it out, and Wazzu isn’t exactly known for its commitment to the ground game.

Saturday’s contest will also have bowl implications for both sides. If ASU wants to go to a bowl game this season, it can’t take another loss. On the other side, Washington State is one win away from bowl eligibility.

Expert predictions

ESPN’s FPI gives the Cougars a 79.5% chance of beating the Sun Devils.

Bill Connelly’s SP+ is calling for a 32-22 Washington State win.

The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner picked Washington State to cover the spread:

The Cougars are playing for a bowl berth and should have conditions on their side with highs in the mid-30s at kickoff. Also, WSU’s defense will be more disruptive, by a factor of five, than anything Arizona State quarterback Trenton Bourguet has faced in his limited playing time.

The Spokesman-Review’s Colton Clark picked Washington State as well, calling for a 31-17 win:

WSU’s defense, which sits atop the Pac-12 with 20 points allowed per game, will stay hot and hold down an ASU offense that showed flashes of explosive potential in recent weeks, scoring 35-plus points in three of its past four games. The Sun Devils mustered only 14 points in a loss to Stanford on Oct. 22.
