Arizona State reportedly filling important off-field role with longtime Pac-12 staffer
Arizona State and new head coach Kenny Dillingham are keeping it in-conference to fill one of the most important off-field positions on a football staff.
According to BuffZone’s Brian Howell, longtime Colorado director of football operations Bryan McGinnis is leaving CU to take the same job at Arizona State. McGinnis was at CU for 10 seasons, serving three different head coaches during that time. He’s the only football ops director to serve even two different coaches in the program’s history.

At CU, McGinnis coordinated many facets for the football program, including team travel arrangements, itineraries, and scheduling. He has significant ties to the Southern California footprint after spending the bulk of his career prior to Colorado exclusively in the area.
McGinnis played wide receiver for two years (2000-01) at Cabrillo College in Aptos before breaking into coaching. His career began at his alma mater, Harbor High School, where he spent two years as the school’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. In 2003, he joined the San Francisco 49ers staff as an intern in the player personnel department.
He graduated from San Jose State in 2007, working with the football program throughout. From 2005-07, he was a student assistant working with the defense. In 2008 and 2010, he worked as a grad assistant on the offensive side with the running backs. In 2009, he was San Jose State’s operations assistant. In 2011, he was promoted to San Jose State’s operations director.
McGinnis served in that capacity for two years before following Mike MacIntyre to Colorado in 2013.
