At a position of major need, Arizona State added perhaps a major contributor on Saturday.

The Sun Devils have secured a transfer pledge from former Auburn defensive back Ro Torrence. The 6-foot-4, 197-pound corner played 10 games for the Tigers last fall after transferring up from the junior college ranks. Torrence will have two years of eligibility.

A former 3-star recruit in the 2021 class out of Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, Torrence was the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season and was also named a first-team All-American after helping his team to an NJCAA national championship. Torrence recorded 28 tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception in eight appearances.

Torrence was the 25th-ranked prospect and fourth-best cornerback in his junior college class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

He’ll have a chance to push for a major role right away in Tempe. Arizona State is looking to replace both starters from last season’s team—Jack Jones and Chase Lucas.
