Arizona State added to its 2023 class on Wednesday — the first day of the Early Signing Period — with a productive pass-rusher out of Louisiana.

Zachary (La.) edge rusher Ashley Williams Jr. announced his commitment to ASU and then signed with the program shortly after, ending a winding recruitment. Williams was a one-time Nebraska commit in July, but left the Huskers’ class weeks later after a visit to Auburn. Shortly after that visit, Williams committed to the Tigers but left the class in early December.

He took an official visit to Georgia Tech, and things seemed to be trending toward the Jackets, but ASU made up a ton of ground in a short amount of time.

According to Devils Digest, Williams did not take a visit to ASU during his recruitment or meet with the coaching staff in-person. But he told Rivals’ Nick Harris he built an immediate bond with new head coach Kenny Dillingham.

“He is one of the younger coaches in college right now, but there’s just something about him,” Williams told Harris. “When he spoke to me, it meant a lot. It showed me how much he wanted me at his program.”

A 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect, Williams spent time in high school both off the ball and with his hand in the dirt as a traditional defensive end. A 3-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite, he ranks as the 47th edge rusher in the class and the 19th prospect from the state of Louisiana.
