Arizona State picked up its fourth 2023 commitment and its first along the line of scrimmage on Sunday.

Cullen Fite, a 3-star defensive lineman from Tatum, Texas, announced on social media his commitment to the Sun Devils. Fite chose ASU over a final three that also included Oregon State and UTSA.

Arizona State got the first of three official visits in the month of June from Fite. He was in Tempe the weekend of June 10, then visited UTSA a week later and Oregon State the week after that. Turns out Arizona State was the school to beat, and no one could.

Fite rates as a 3-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He’s the 127th-ranked defensive lineman and a top-200 recruit from the state of Texas. He told Sun Devil Source’s Chris Karpman that defensive line coach Robert Rodriguez’s no-nonsense approach really resonated with him during his recruitment.

“He tells it like it is, what actually happens up there (at ASU) and with the position, with what I’m good at, what I need to work on,” Fite told Karpman. When he first started talking to me, he said, ‘I’m going to tell you what we actually do, not what you want to hear. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to play for me. If you do, you can come play for me.’ That just really stuck with me.”

The 6-foot-1, 280-pound Fite totaled 53 tackles and 16 tackles for loss as a junior last fall. He had three sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception to go along with them. That earned him a Texas District 6-3A D-I Defensive MVP honor a year after landing on the District 6-3A D-I First Team as a sophomore.

ASU is still working to gain some momentum on the recruiting trail, but the class has added three of its four commits since late June, so things are headed in the right direction as the season approaches.
