Arizona State earned a commitment from Chicago (Ill.) Kenwood Academy linebacker K’Vion Thunderbird on Thursday.

A 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker in the 2023 class, Thunderbird announced his commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube page. He chose the Sun Devils from a group of finalists that also included Oregon, Colorado, Tennessee, and Purdue.

He told 247Sports shortly after that first-year ASU coach Kenny Dillingham was huge in his recruitment; Dillingham was after Thunderbird when he was at Oregon and then continued to recruit Thunderbird when he moved to Tempe.

Thunderbird was a first-team all-state selection as a senior for Kenwood, posting 109 tackles, six tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. He’s expected to begin his career as an inside linebacker for ASU.

According to the industry-generated 247 Composite, Thunderbird ranks as the No. 19 recruit from the state of Illinois and the No. 77 linebacker in the 2023 class. He’s a 3-star prospect.

His commitment gives ASU 19 known high school commitments for the 2023 class. Among them, 15 signed during the Early Signing Period last month. The Sun Devils are also bringing in a 25-man transfer class, as things currently stand.
