Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley announced several staff moves on Friday, filling out his assistant coaching bench ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Jermain Kimbrough has been promoted to associate head coach, according to a release. Brandon Rosenthal, previously the team’s director of scouting and player development, has been elevated to the role of assistant coach. He’ll join Kimbrough and George Aramide on the bench.

Hurley has also named Nick Irvin as a special assistant to the head coach. Irvin was most recently an assistant coach at Western Illinois. Former Sun Devil Mickey Mitchell is returning to Tempe as a special assistant focusing on player personnel and recruiting and analytics. Finally, Justin McLean has been named as Rosenthal’s replacement, serving as the team’s new director of scouting and player development.

Kimbrough joined Hurley’s staff in the spring of 2021 and immediately proved himself valuable on the recruiting trail.

“It was a no-brainer to elevate Jermaine into this position,” Hurley said in a release. “He has checked all the boxes since he got here. There is no doubt he will be a future head coach. I am excited to continue working with him.”

Rosenthal had been in his previous role with the program for three years. Hurley said his value in practice has been clear.

“This is a natural progression for a guy who has NBA experience as a coach,” Hurley said in a release. “He’s worked here with me for several years and I really trust his knowledge of the game. He adds a lot of value in practice helping us be prepared on gameday.”
